Family of the year - Psyche or like scope (Kimo Edits Collection)

Most edits are over older or classic disco and electronic tracks. DJ Kimo from Barcelona, Spain, flips it and takes on L.A.-based indie folk-rock band Famliy Of The Year. The track "Psyche Or Like Scope" is off their first full-length album "Songbook" (2009)

The original track stands out from the rest of FOTYs songbook, and it itself is sort of alt-disco. DJ Kimo adds a subtle four-on-the-floor and a touch of effects like delay and airy reverb. The vocals are kept at just one repeating phrase and some "aaaaaahh"s. Great edit!

Most edits are disco or soul tracks, but this here's hard rock. This was G'n'R's second single in 1987 and now some 20 years later Todd terje has his take on a version that fit the DJ set.
He added a little percussion at the beginning and looped a few guitar riffs and !BANG! now the club kids can rock, too.
This is an unofficial release, and the sound quality isn't the best. But as always, when it comes to Tangoterje the craftsmanship is perfect.

Bros. Johnson - Ain't We Funkin' Now (Todd Terje Edit)

First time I heard The Brothers Johnson's "Ain't We Funkin' Now" was on the ultimate break beat series and as I remember the track was edited by Luis Flores (the man at UBB who extended the drumbreaks on some of the volumes).
UBB used the version with the drumbreak and I found a bootleg 12" featuring that same version at a flea market in NYC. (..crates full of 12" and classic breakbeats. Some had written "Magic" on the label. Now, if it had belong to Mr. Magic that explains the condition was under "good" and often "fair". I bought them all, though. It was $1/each and several had dublets in the cover. Yay!)

Anyway, I'm wondering why Todd Terje didn't use the drumbeat version in his edit of "Ain't We Funkin' Now"!? He's used the "regular" extended version that goes straight to "..listen to the bass man" halfway. Well, the edit, which is unofficial, is a DJ-edit well arranged with no effects added. Not his best to date.

Todd Terje's edit is actually an extended instrumental of this hit. He doesn't utilize reverbs, delays or filters the way he usually does. The intro crowd that originally fades in is gained and looped, clearly repeating voices and cheers. Great idea!

Re-editing a hit like this isn't easy, and IMO this edit is like a foreplay without climax. Maybe because these lyrics are classic, fun and essential for the feel of the song. It's easier to do a re-edit of this one, because the arrangement isn't that well-known and thus people are more open to changes. "But don't worry, you can sun tan!"

Rolling Stones - Under My Dub (Todd Terje Edit) a.k.a "Under My Thumb"

For now just a white label, but must be a matter of time before Decca, Virgin or whoever own the rights makes this an official release.
Tood Terje, for it is him once again, has really stretched this one to its limits. Just a touch of extra drums. The rest is send through effects, loops and filters and with a steady pace it clocks in at 5:36 (the original from the "Aftermath" album is 3:20, which was long for 1966)

Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band - Do Your Thing (Lulu Rouge Edit)

This one's beautiful. Danish producer team Lulu Rouge vs. Charles Wright in a dancefloor frenzy. These guys know their dancefloor suspense-and-release routine. The track is Wright's 1968 hit "Do Your Thing". The Lulu guys left out the guitar solo, which is perfectly alright, and added percussion and a complementary bass-synth (yeah, yeah.. I know it's breaking the rules of this blog..). I loved "Do Your Thing" before, but now...wauww!
