Dr. Hook - Sexy Eyes (VinylAddicted Hooked On Your Eyes Edit)

From pop-rock-counrty to midnight groove. The edit from (the Greece native?) VinylAddicted is based on a hypnotic loop and keeps you waiting for the vocals, while getting more and more intense. The verse kicks in no later than 3:30 (!) and adds the icing to the cake. The 1979-topchart hit from Dr. Hook almost sounds and feels like some forgotten 80's Marvin Gaye gem.

I really wish that Tim Zawada had been around in 1979 to make a decent extended version or dub version for the 12" (IMO the original 12" is a bit boring)
This edit is really well-crafted with a dynamic arrangement, and while emphasizing the good parts it stays interesting.

Chic - I Want Your Love (Todd Terje Edit)

By public demand, here is a Todd Terje special. Hey, let's call it Terje-week, and I'll try and keep online all week.

This one was an instant classic both as original by Chic, and also as this edit was released sometime last year in 2009.
Originally, it was the follow-up to "Le Freak", but it didn't get the same commercial success. However, it is way more sophisticated in its composition and thus, stands the test of time.

Todd TangoTerje's edit emphasizes the hypnotic guitar riff from start and throws in some dubbed vocal samples before the Bernard Edwards trademark bass kicks in. The edit holds this tempo until a 40 second guitar delay rounds things up.

This particular release is out on Supreme.

Hott City - Feelin' Love ( Lunar Jam Re-edit), 1979

Now, I'm Mista-know-it-all. At least that's what I thought...

Fall 2008, I heard a mix including Lunar Jam's "Our Feel Love" and I dug it right away. What a great house track with a true disco feel and sound! But through a Youtube browsing I found out that it was "just" a re-edit of Hott City's "Feelin' Love" (1979). The original on the Butterfly label still sounds fresh after 30 years and with the help from the guys at Lunar Jam it is now a newborn classic - if it wasn't already. Lunar Jam kept the pulsating percussive parts and the smooth'n'sexy chorus. And - this is the best part - they slowed it down by some 15 bpm (down til 120 bpm). A tempo which suits the track better, IMO. Others would just have sped it up and added 4-on-the-floor.

Now I've been schooled - again...
