Mr. Porter's Liquid Spirits (Quick Dj Friendly Edit By El Barrio)

I just can't wait to get my hands on Gregory Porter's third album "Liquid Spirit" (out sept. 17 2013)! One of the very few artists to really get the live-feeling into that record groove.

The title track with the lifting handclaps and woody upright bass has gotten a little DJ-friendly treatment from El Barrio DJs - not that it's needed. It's a good re-edit that fits well into any DJ-set of the more electronic and urban kind where the original might be too jazzy.

El Barrio DJs has just added a synth intro, a subtle kick and some percussion - and pushed the tempo a little upwards. A great fit for any Jazzanova project. Too bad it's not out officially on 12" or DL.
Clap your hands now.

Queen - Radio Ga Ga (Irregular Disco Workers Edit)

Definitely a Queen favorite of mine, both in music og lyrics. Also my very first encounter with the band when it hit the charts in 1984.
Apparently this song was the result of drummer Roger Taylor playing with his new tech toys; a Roland Jupiter 8 and a Linn drum machine.
Irregular Disco Workers has replaced the trademark arpeggiator bassline with a slapbass (much like Camille Jones "The Creeps"), but it works surprisingly well. A little filter on Freddie's sparse vocals and a little extra kicks, snaps and cowbells. We love cowbells!
Nice!

Pet Shop Boys - Love Comes Quickly - Jean Claude Gavri Love Trip

Currently PSB is touring Europe and getting fine reviews. I'm not familiar with their new work, but being an ex-semi-fan their 'Golden Age' songs always makes me smile. PSB-golden age to me is 1985-1988 - in particular the first singles.

Jean Claude Gavri's rework of their second single off the 'Please' debut album is THE best dub version I have heard of any PSB song! Not even Shep Pettibone have nailed one like this.

Jean sped up the song a little and kept only the instrumental parts - except for a few 'uhuhu-uhuhu's. On top of that a few spices make this rework a fresh sounding track; a touch of extra hi-hats, additional synth bass and a 303 acid-type synth to support the melody.

Only downside is that the Facebook download is limited to ten days only... :(

Dr. Hook - Sexy Eyes (VinylAddicted Hooked On Your Eyes Edit)

From pop-rock-counrty to midnight groove. The edit from (the Greece native?) VinylAddicted is based on a hypnotic loop and keeps you waiting for the vocals, while getting more and more intense. The verse kicks in no later than 3:30 (!) and adds the icing to the cake. The 1979-topchart hit from Dr. Hook almost sounds and feels like some forgotten 80's Marvin Gaye gem.
Also followVinylAddicted's blog if you're addicted to ...well, vinyl.

Commodores - Machine Gun (Belabouche edit)

The Commodores get surprisingly funky on this Beastie Boys-sampled joint. Nice extended parts from Belabouche and a bit re-arranging of the guitar riff, which makes the track interesting again.
Machine Gun is originally from their debut studioalbum of same title.
